BACKGROUND
Tensions have flared along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
The Taliban government confirmed it launched attacks on Pakistani troops in several mountainous areas, calling these “retaliatory operations” after accusing Pakistan of violating Afghan airspace and bombing a market inside Afghanistan’s border.
The situation remains tense, with casualties still unclear.
THE ATTACKS AND RESPONSES
Both sides reportedly used small arms and artillery in the Kunar-Kurram region, with heavy weapons fire reported from locations like Angoor Adda, Bajaur, Kurram, Dir, Chitral, and Baramcha.
Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi described the Taliban’s actions as “unprovoked,” accusing them of firing at civilians.
“The firing by Afghan forces on civilian populations is a blatant violation of international laws.
Afghanistan is playing a game of fire and blood,” said Naqvi.
Pakistan’s military has vowed to take necessary measures to safeguard its people and property.
REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL REACTIONS
The escalation coincided with Afghan Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India, where diplomatic ties are being restored.
Saudi Arabia, which recently signed a mutual defence pact with Pakistan, called for restraint.
Qatar also urged both sides to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy to avoid further conflict.
