As U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his second state visit to the UK, he and Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a new technology partnership agreement between the two countries.
The two leaders met on Thursday (September 18) at Starmer’s country residence in Chequers.
Trump told reporters as the two leaders signed the agreement that it was “a historic technology partnership agreement.”
“This will unlock new collaborations between government, academia and the private sector in areas such as artificial intelligence, which is sweeping the world,” he said.
Trump praised the relationship between the US and Britain, saying: “Today, we are making those ties closer than ever before.”
Trump and first lady Melania Trump received an official welcome from King Charles III and other members of the royal family at Windsor Castle outside London on Wednesday. Trump and first lady Melania arrived at Chequers by helicopter earlier Thursday.
Wednesday’s events include a carriage tour of the Windsor Castle estate, a military flypast and a lavish state banquet hosted by the British royal family.
“The ties of kinship and shared identity between the United States and Britain are priceless and enduring,” Trump said in his state dinner speech.
Trump is the first US president to be invited to the UK for a second state visit, which he called “one of the greatest honors of my life.” His first state visit was in 2019 during his first term.
